Matches to Watch:
1. The rematch between SK Gaming and Fnatic. We talked about their previous match before, when Fnatic finally brought down the European powerhouse. Will Fnatic be able to take advantage of SK's methodical game play again with their explosive aggression, or has SK had time enough to reflect on their mistakes, and won't allow for a repeat?
When: Thursday at 12:00 PM PST.
2. H2k and Gambit Gaming. Both teams have played impressive games in the last few weeks--in fact, H2k has gone 6-0 in their last 6 games, and Gambit has gone 7-0. Who will continue to carry on their winning streak and challenge SK?
When: Thursday at 10:00 AM PST.
3. Elements vs Unicorns of Love. These teams have seen a lot of ups and downs over the last few weeks. There's a lot of potential in either team--Elements is the former Alliance that took 1st in EU last year, and Unicorns of Love have the aggressive early game that rolled over SK last week--but both fluctuate so much between their games that the match would be difficult to call. Who will close out the week on top?
When: Friday at 10:00 AM PST.
This is a potential upset week all around--most of the tough teams are seeing each other in a match sometime this week.
Full Schedule and Predictions:
Thursday:
9:00 AM - MeetYourMakers vs Giants
Last Match: Giants. 3 - 9 towers, 14 -5 kills. Match time: 27:19. Week 1.
Prediction: MeetYourMakers. This is a tough call. MeetYourMakers probably won't allow themselves to make the same mistake again and let Werlyb get Jax, and Giants haven't done much to switch up their game play since their last encounter. Still, Giants have fared a little better, and MeetYourMakers is playing with an ever rotating roster--but the new support for MYM might give them the momentum they need to get back in the game.
10:00 AM - H2k vs Gambit
Last Match: Gambit. 5 - 10 towers, 15 - 33 kills. Match time: 51:57. Week 3.
Prediction: Gambit. Gambit actually started their winning streak by defeating H2k. Both teams have faced off against one of the two top teams and won. The match will be a close call either way, but Gambit has proven that, especially in long matches, they seem to come out on top.
11:00 AM - Copenhagen Wolves vs Elements
Last Match: Elements. 4 - 10 towers, 10 - 19 kills. Match time: 37:05. Week 2.
Prediction: Elements. Even though they lost to SK on Friday, the addition of Krepo to the team brings the sort of shot calling and early skirmishing that Elements needs to beat other teams. The Wolves, like Elements, have had a rough go of the last few weeks--but if Elements can manage to shut down Freeze, the Wolves shouldn't put up too much of a struggle.
12:00 PM - SK Gaming vs Fnatic
Last Match: Fnatic. 4 - 10 towers, 14 - 29 kills. Match time: 43:32. Week 5.
Prediction: SK Gaming. Fnatic has been looking stellar in their games as of late, and SK has had a rough few matches in the last two weeks. However, SK is due for a rebound, and this is the big match they had to prepare for this week.
1:00 PM - ROCCAT vs Unicorns of Love
Last Match: Unicorns of Love. 3 - 11 towers, 4 - 12 kills. Match time: 31:38. Week 4.
Prediction: Unicorns of Love. Although they've been really inconsistent--after beating SK, they lose to the bottom rung team--Unicorns typically perform very well on their first match of the week.
Friday:
9:00 AM - ROCCAT vs SK Gaming
Last Match: SK Gaming. 2 - 9 towers, 4 - 16 kills. Match time: 39:11. Week 1.
Prediction: SK Gaming. Only three teams have brought down SK so far in the Spring Split, and ROCCAT hasn't shown the sort of mechanics that would be necessary to bring SK down.
10:00 AM - Elements vs Unicorns of Love
Last Match: Elements. 11 - 5 towers, 14 - 6 kills. Match time: 33:13. Week 1.
Prediction: Unicorns of Love. This was a tough match to call, but Elements tends to play a very passive early game (with some improvement since the addition of Krepo), and don't have the early game mechanics to deal with an aggressive early game team, whereas Unicorns tend to get aggressive early on.
11:00 AM - Fnatic vs MeetYourMakers
Last Match: Fnatic. 11 - 2 towers, 18 - 8 kills. Match time: 37:12. Week 4.
Prediction: Fnatic. MeetYourMakers did have a great game against the Unicorns last week, but they'd have to pull out a whole new level of dynamic play to bring down Fnatic.
12:00 PM - H2k vs Copenhagen Wolves
Last Match: Copenhagen Wolves. 6 - 9 towers, 12 - 18 kills. Match time: 49:43. Week 1.
Prediction: H2k. H2k has a pretty solid line up that has been performing consistently well in the last six games, whereas Copenhagen Wolves have waffled all over the place (aside from Freeze, who is consistently a contender).
1:00 PM - Gambit vs Giants
Last Match: Gambit. 10 - 6 towers, 16 - 7 kills. Match time: 50:59. Week 4.
Prediction: Gambit. Giants rely heavily on Werlyb and Pepiinero to win; Gambit--as we've seen in past games--is good at minimizing their carries while controlling objectives. As long as Gambit prevents Werlyb from snowballing and Betsy lays down enough pressure on Pep. in the laning phase, Giants shouldn't be much of a problem.
