Week 6 brought a lot of surprising upsets to the NA LCS. Team 8 skyrocketed to the three-way tie for fifth place; Team Liquid also went 2-0, including a victory over CLG; Team Impulse stymied TSM into a decisive victory. Can Team Liquid keep up their streak? Can TSM and CLG rally and return to 2 - 0 weeks? What will happen in the three way tie for 5th place?
Matches to Watch:
1. Team Impulse vs Cloud 9. CLG is poised for a good week against Gravity and Team Coast; Cloud 9 needs to take down Team Impulse if they want to keep their second place spot. On the other hand, Team Impulse has now landed themselves in the three-way tie, and needs to do what they can to pull ahead of the rest of the pack and prove they belong in the playoffs. Can Team Impulse rally the same strength they had against TSM, or will Cloud 9 leave Impulse as broken has they did in their last encounter?
2. Gravity vs Winterfox. Winterfox is just outside the three-way tie for fifth place and needs to bring about their rally now if they want to make it into the playoffs. Meanwhile, Gravity needs to pull ahead of Team 8 and Team Impulse if they want to secure a spot either. The last time they met, Winterfox had three subs and were able to secure a victory over Gravity. Will this be a repeat, or has Gravity learned from their week 1 defeat?
3. Team Liquid vs Team 8. Both teams saw great weeks last week. Team 8 now stands on the edge of 4th place, and needs to prove themselves in these next few games if they want to secure a spot at the Spring Playoffs, and Team Liquid is poised to compete with the top teams in the standings. Can Team Liquid stay on top, or will Team 8 be able to carry on their momentum in to this week?
When: Saturday at 4:00 PM PST.
Full Schedule and Predictions:
Saturday:
12:00 PM - Team Dignitas (4 - 8) vs Team Coast (1 - 11)
Last Match: Team Dignitas. 7 - 5 towers, 9 - 10 kills. Match time: 37:11. Week 1.
Prediction: Team Dignitas. If there is a match this week that Team Coast could win, it's this one. Team Dignitas has had a hard time in the last few weeks, but Team Coast has had it worse. Although they didn't win their matches last week despite the addition of Azingy, this could be the match that Dignitas needs to pick up their momentum.
1:00 PM - Gravity (6 - 6) vs Counter Logic Gaming (8 - 4)
Last Match: Counter Logic Gaming. 4 - 10 towers, 7 - 16 kills. Match time: 35:11. Week 3.
Prediction: Counter Logic Gaming. Gravity has had mixed performances over the last few weeks. They look really great in their victories, and absolutely demolished in their losses. On the other hand, despite CLG's losses in the last few weeks, they're consistently a top performing team and have what it takes to shut out Gravity.
2:00 PM - Winterfox (5 - 7) vs Team SoloMid (9 - 3)
Last Match: Team SoloMid. 3 - 11 towers, 4 - 13 kills. Match time: 32:34. Week 2.
Prediction: Team SoloMid. Team SoloMid has had a lot to think about this last week; their loss against Team Impulse was a wake up call much like their loss against Team 8 in Week 1. Although they've still struggled to fix their weaknesses, TSM is coming into this match looking much stronger.
3:00 PM - Team Impulse (6 - 6) vs Cloud 9 (8 - 4)
Last Match: Cloud 9. 4 - 10 towers, 3 - 14 kills. Match time: 36:01. Week 5.
Prediction: Cloud 9. This match proved to be a little more difficult to call. Team Impulse no doubt has gained some momentum from their victory last week over TSM; however, Cloud 9 has had a great two weeks that has taken them on a meteoric rise. The game should be a little closer than Week 5, but if Cloud 9 keeps playing like they have been, they should secure the victory.
4:00 PM - Team Liquid (7 - 5) vs Team 8 (6 - 6)
Last Match: Team Liquid. 11 - 2 towers, 18 - 3 kills. Match time: 34:43. Week 4.
Prediction: Team Liquid. Team 8 had a great week last week, taking down both Team Impulse and Team Dignitas. However, Team Liquid is coming off a win over Gravity and Counter Logic Gaming, and has been looking consistently strong throughout their games, especially with the addition of KEITH. If Team Liquid can pull on the skills they used to take down CLG last week, they should be able to secure a solid victory against Team 8 this week.
Sunday:
12:00 PM - Cloud 9 (8 - 4) vs Team Dignitas (4 - 8)
Last Match: Cloud 9. 9 - 1 towers, 7 - 1 kills. Match time: 26:16. Week 4.
Prediction: Cloud 9. Cloud 9 solidly defeated Dignitas in their first encounter. Although Dignitas has no doubt had a lot of time to think through the match and what they could change, Cloud 9 will have a clear advantage going into the match.
1:00 PM - Team SoloMid (9 - 3) vs Team 8 (6 - 6)
Last Match: Team 8. 3 - 11 towers, 9 - 16 kills. Match time: 31:03. Week 1.
Prediction: Team SoloMid. Since their last encounter, Team 8 has had mixed results. At times they can pull off a pretty solid performance, but surprise might have been the real reason for their victory over TSM in week 1. As long as TSM has done their homework and prepared for the match, they should come back with a much stronger performance this time around.
2:00 PM - Team Liquid (7 - 5) vs Team Impulse (6 - 6)
Last Match: Team Liquid. 7 - 4 towers, 21 - 10 kills. Match time: 40:07. Week 1.
Prediction: Team Liquid. Aside from Impact taking over for Rhux, this match looks like it could be much like their first encounter. Last week, Team Impulse struggled against Team 8 and had a great performance against Team SoloMid--Team Liquid, on the other hand, solidly took down Gravity and CLG. As long as Team Liquid continues to play as a strong unit, they should be able to secure a victory on Sunday.
3:00 PM - Gravity (6 - 6) vs Winterfox (5 - 7)
Last Match: Winterfox. 2 - 11 towers, 8 - 22 kills. Match time: 39:44. Week 1.
Prediction: Gravity. This is a tough match to call. Both Winterfox and Gravity have a tendency to be unpredictable, bouncing from clear wins to devastating losses. This match could really come down to the jungle. The last time they met, Winterfox had three different teammates: Flaresz in the top lane, ShorterACE in the jungle, and Gleeb as support. This time around, Gravity has had more LCS experience as a team, and has fared better over the last few weeks. As long as Gravity doesn't allow Winterfox much room, they should be able to secure a steady victory.
4:00 PM - Counter Logic Gaming (8 - 4) vs Team Coast (1 - 11)
Last Match: Counter Logic Gaming. 10 - 4 towers, 16 - 8 kills. Match time: 44:37. Week 4.
Prediction: Counter Logic Gaming. Although Team Coast performed decently well in their last encounter with CLG, with roster changes and many hits to their morale, it'd be very difficult for them to pull off a victory.
